December 2016 Support for Child Welfare Facility

As a part of Toyofuji Shipping's social contribution activities, Toyofuji on December 20 presented a donation to Akatsuki Gakuen, a local children's home in Tokai City to which the company has continually provided support since 1994. Presented along with a gift of snacks and fruit, the funds* are intended to help expand future opportunities and options for the children at the facility.
In addition to expressing the organization's thanks to Toyofuji for this donation, Akatsuki Gakuen Director Osamu Hishida also described the home's current conditions and recent activities based on the theme "Catch the Dream."
Toyofuji wholeheartedly intends to continue the company's cooperation and support for future generations.

December 2016 Toyofuji Holds On-Board Disaster Drill Demonstration

On December 2, Toyofuji Shipping held the company's "30th On-Board Disaster Drill Demonstration," conducted under the instruction of the Nagoya Coast Guard Office and Tokai Municipal Fire Department aboard the TOYOFUKU MARU, in port at Berth I-2 at the Meiko Center. The drill was attended by some 80 individuals, including members from Toyofuji Shipping as well as representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Chubu District Transport Bureau, Toyota Motor Corporation, cargo shippers, port services companies, and other affiliated companies in the marine transport industry.
Before the drill, a lecture on safety was held to mark the occasion of the 30th onboard disaster drill, with Nagoya Coast Guard Office Section Chief Uchino speaking on the importance of practical education and training for crew members, based past disasters that have occurred in shipping.
The aim of the disaster drill was minimizing harm to humans and material damage in the event of a fire on board a company vessel. The scenario in this drill involved a fire breaking out inside the vessel while anchored, and initial efforts by crew members to extinguish the fire, as well as training in the evacuation of personnel. In addition to crew member training, the exercise also included a joint drill with the Nagoya Coast Guard Office in extinguishing fires with water sprayed from fire hoses on the patrol boat "Ayuzuki," searching for missing individuals and rescuing the injured, and carrying injured personnel off the vessel down the ladder of a Tokai Municipal Fire Department hook-and-ladder truck.
Following the drill, Nagoya Coast Guard Office Vice Director Uchiyama said, "We will endeavor to conduct this type of drill to gain mastery in the use of equipment and other tasks repeatedly, maintaining and improving our skills while further strengthening links between disaster response agencies."

October 2016 Toyofuji Holds Bon Voyage Concert 2016

On October 31st, the 2016 Toyofuji Bon Voyage Concert was held at Aichi Prefectural Art Theater's Concert Hall, the eighteenth such concert that Toyofuji has sponsored."
The theme selected for this year's concert was "The Future, The World, and Harmony," both to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and to celebrate the harmonious relations between Toyofuji, our customers, our partner companies, the local community, and others."
Featuring three women who are musically active in countries around the world—conductor Keiko Mitsuhashi, violinist Miki Kobayashi, and pianist Kana Okada—the performance in the Concert Hall's wonderful atmosphere included Saint-Sa?ns Violin Concerto No. 3, Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, and other works. With the splendid artistry and exquisite sound of the violin and piano performances skillfully blending with the orchestra's rich tone, it was a performance enjoyed by all. Our sincere thanks go to the many guests who attended this event.

October 2016 Toyofuji Exhibits at Messe Nagoya 2016

Toyofuji participated in the four-day "Messe Nagoya 2016" trade show held October 26-29 at Port Messe Nagoya on Nagoya Port's Kinjo Pier."
Based on the concept of "providing information about our company in a way that is easy to understand and enjoyable for general visitors," our exhibit, which drew approximately 700 visitors, featured a steering simulator and "hands-on learning" vessel demonstrations, information about ports, and an introduction to the company's operations. We sincerely thank our many visitors who came to see the exhibit."
Our steering simulator, dubbed "Ship de Go" ("Ship and Go"), is a real simulator used in actual navigational training, thus giving our visitors a taste of what it's like to navigate on of our vessels in Nagoya Port. With the surprising realism of the scenes and vessel movements within Nagoya Port, this simulator allowed visitors to physically sense the difficulty of steering a large vessel.

June 2016 Maritime Cleanup Activities Held

Toyofuji conducted various beautification activities in June in conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment's "Environment Month."
The company's environmental preservation projects included a maritime cleanup of Nagoya Port on June 11th. Nineteen Toyofuji employees joined together with members of the Nagoya Coast Guard Office in collecting household trash, plastic bottles, and other rubbish from the waters around Nagoya Port's Shimpo Pier, Kinjo Pier, and Garden Pier. Toyofuji is committed to playing an active part in continuing this environmental preservation program.

May 2016

Toyofuji has collected contributions totaling 1 million yen from the company's employees and donated these funds to Kumamoto as support for the victims of earthquake.

March 2016 Soba Noodle-Making Party Held at Children's Nursing Home

A customary spring vacation soba noodle-making party was held March 29 at Akatsuki Gakuen (Osamu Hishida, Director), a local children's nursing home in Tokai City, with cooperation generously provided by the traditional Nagoya soba restaurant "Yasue."
The children enjoyed the experience of making soba noodles with Toyofuji executives and employees participating alongside them, and the visitors from Toyofuji had a wonderful time with the children while enjoying freshly-cooked soba.
